Street Sense winning the Kentucky Derby was published in the Louisville CourierJournal on May 6.

The panel of judges was comprised of Ed Rcinke of the Associated Press in Louisville; Jim Gensheimer of the San Jose Mercury News and Dan Farrell, a former photographer for New York Daily News.

Eclipse Awards are given to recognize members of the media for outstanding coverage of Thoroughbred racing. Eclipse Awards are also given to horses and individuals whose outstanding achievements have earned them the title of Champion in their respective categories.

The Eclipse Awards arc named after the great 18th-century racehorse and foundation sire Eclipse, who began racing at age 5 and was undefeated in 18 starts. Eclipse sired the winners of 344 races, including three Epsom Derbies.
