Senate Hill fifiM passed the Senate with a vote of 2d to 1 fi. House Hill 9,‘MJ passed the House 70 to 29
Each of the hills was sent to the opposite chamber of the Assembly — now the Senate bill has to make it through the House and the House bill needs to make it through the Senate. Rappahannock will be able to pursue greater state f unding if only one of the two nearly identical bills passes both chambers and is signed into law.
"It’s i big step." said John McCarthy, Kappahannock County administrator. McCarthy, along with other county and school officials, lobbied for the bills.
“I’d say we re over the biggest hurdle, but we have some small ones to climb," he said.
The two bills passed in a whirlwind this past Tuesday, the last day that legislation could have l»een voted through the individual chambers If they had not been taken up and voted on. they would have lieen put aside for the rest of the legislative session.
Del. Todd Hilbert argued in support of House Hill 93H, which he is sponsoring.
