“It’s hard to know if we’re going to have a surplus in this fund or not because we never know when the court will order us to place a child in foster care,” she said.
The Welfare Department is currently working on a foster care case, she continued. There are several options open that would require a major portion of the $20,220 fiscal year 1977 appropriation. “That’s why we can’t be tied down to a tight allocation because there are so many ways to go,” she commented. "There may be money that can be transferred out of foster care but we won’t know until later in the year.”
Mrs. Buntin reported that the county’s general relief program was also “under expended” to date but advised against taking money from there “at this point.”
