“The real issue is whether the people here will be heard,” Butch Davies observes. He continues: “We have to have leaders who will lead . . . and we have to have representatives who will represent the best interests of the people. So many special interests now have lobbyists that what’s best for the taxpaying public is too often forgotten.”
Davies, the Democratic nominee for the House of Delegates, has been meeting many issues head-on in his campaign against George Beard.
CRIME CONTROL
The issue of crime control was Davies’ topic as he served as a panelist on a special radio program called “Progress Against Crime.” In addition to Davies, the program featured Culpeper Sheriff Robert Peters, Chief of Police Roy Jamison, and Attorney General candidate Ed Lane. Since two-thirds of all serious crimes are committed by repeat offenders, the panel expressed the thoughts of many Virginians in calling for tougher parole standards.
Both Davies and Lane expressed interest in the “Crime Watch” program that is credited with lowering burglary rates in may rural communities.
SECONDARY ROADS
"Some of the roads here need immediate first-aid,” Davies observed after a recent tour of secondary roads in Madison County.
Rural road improvements have become a focal point of a Davies campaign effort that includes personal surveys of many of the District’s unpaved roads.
