Thomas Thomson Byrd, newspaper executive and civic leader of Clarke and Frederick counties, has been named finance chairman for the $6 million Northern Virginia 4-H Club Educational Center to be built 5 miles south of Front Royal.
Announcement of Byrd’s appointment was made today by Samuel Jones, Jr., executive vice president of The Commercial and Savings Bank of Winchester, who serves as president of the Center, which is owned by a nonprofit, self-sustaining corporation.
When completed, the Center will be capable of serving 1,286,000 persons, including 35,000 4-H Club members, who live in 18 northern Virginia counties and the cities of Alexandria and Fredericksburg.
Byrd was graduated from Staunton Military Academy, attended Virginia Military Institute and The American School in Switzerland. In 1971, he was graduated from Lynchburg College, with a B.A. degree in political
