The programs have been in operation for three months but “we don’t have it (Rappahannock’s local match of $826) in the budget... We’re spending money that we don’t have,” she said.
In the optional companion services program for the first three months of fiscal year 1977, the Welfare Department has spent $1,905.60 with $381.12 in local funds, according to Mrs. Buntin's figures. “Again, that’s money we don’t have,” she said. “Even if the Welfare Board decided to abandon companion services,” continued Mrs. Buntin, “the Supervisors would still have to appropriate $381.12 plus the costs of operating the program through for October.”
