TAX REFORM
Saying that legislators “need to learn to say no” to frequent tax increase proposals, Davies advocates “sunset” legislation that would end costly state programs that have retained funding despite the fact that they are no longer of significant benefits.
According to Davies, “Sunset legislation would make a major contribution toward keeping the state’s budget balanced—without continued tax increases.”
Davies also plans to work for “a tax credit for older Virginians” that would help ease the burden of sales taxes paid for food and non-prescription medicines.
LOCAL TELEPHONE RATES
A major problem locally, according to Davies, is “a long distance charge for many area residents when they’re calling within their own county. In fact, some residents here can’t call their next door neighbor without a long-distance rate.”
Davies has pledged to “go to all the boards, commissions, and departments necessary to get effective action against long-distance charges for what should be local calls.”
