Brault and Charles Waddell, and White House aide Hugh “Skip” Holcombe shared the platform with Mrs. Howell.

Mrs. Howell, calling her husband “a man for the people”, urged voters to send the “most experienced” man to Richmond. Citing Howell’s long-time record in state and local government, she also said the former Lt Governor has a strong commitment of support from President Jimmy Carter.

She predicted a Howell victory, saying she has the “same feeling today” she had when her husband upset Andrew Miller in the Democratic primary.
