“He’s a worker,’’ said Sherman Williams of Chester Gap in Rappahannock County. He was referring to the determined campaign efforts of John J. “Butch’’ Davies. Day after day, from factory gates to country roads to civic forums, Davies has taken his campaign directly to the people of his district— and the people have responded.
“I’m impressed with his willingness to go and see people, regardless of where they live. And bad weather doesn’t stop him. He was campaigning in a driving rainstorm in Culpeper other day,” commented Dot Schaeffer of Rixeyville.
“If he works half as hard as a Delegate as he’s working now,” said Emmett Dunnavant, “the people of this area will surely be represented well.”
Rallies and open-door meetings around the District are drawing more and more area residents to participate in the Davies, campaign effort—and this response has “really encouraged” the candidate: “I’ll always remember the warm response I’ve received . . . whether I win or lose, I’ve learned a lot about his area and I’ve made a lot of friends. If we do win on the 8th, I’ll try to repay the people here by working just as hard as I can for their interests.”
