Thursday, November 3 at 7:45 p.m. the Rappahannock County Library will present an evening of Poetry and an interval of instrumental and vocal music. In this experimental program, the Library hopes to give exposure to local artists for the entertainment and edification of county residents. "In a word,” says Librarian Grace Sims, “we hope the Library can be a showcase for the talents and creative abilities of our Rappahannock residents.”
Carla Eugster, who has her Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan, is the poet. She lives near Woodville where she is endeavoring to devote full time to poetry. As the organizer of the November 3 program, she will read a selection of her strong and sensitive poetry and then guide a discussion on the subject of poetry and writing it. Mrs. Eugster hopes her audience will bring their views and questions to this informal symposium.
A musical interlude in the evening of poetry under the direction of Michael Krueger will offer three shape note hymns sung by Judy Bomberger, Bradford Fisher and Michael Krueger. Then there will be a clarinet-viola duet composed by Mr. Krueger and played by him and Carla Eugster. Michael Kruger, 26 years of age, moved to the county three years ago. He is Chicago-born, the son of a government research statistician. He lives music and works carpentry. Last spring his original music was heard during a dance production given in the county and in a trio composition for autoharp, viola and recorder performed by the Rappahannock Choral Society. “Come at or before 7:45 on that November 3 night,” suggests Librarian Sims, “as we are anticipating a good turn out and seating will be scarce. Herb tea and after dinner coffee will be served for your pleasure.”
