An untrained hunter with a shotgun who is shooting at a target less than 10 yards away—this is the typical hunter involved in this season’s hunting accidents. His victim, while close, is usually wearing clothes that s blSml’ in with'' 'his' furround - ings. Only two hunting accident victims this year were wearing bright clothes.
As of the end of November, 27 hunting accidents have been reported to the Virginia Game Commission, with four of these being fatal. Poor judgment on the part of the shooter appears to be the overlying cause of most of the accidents. Often this poor judgment causes the hunter to become the victim of his own carelessness.
