Christmas gift giving is a time for surprises, usually pleasant surprises. This year, the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals has entered into the act and presented county residents with an unexpected present. The regular meeting of the Board has been rescheduled to hear a new request from the Rappahannock Ski Area for a special use permit on December 22—just three days before Christmas.

We reserve comment on the merits of the application until we know a little more about the project. However, we object and object strenuously to the timing of the hearing.

The reopening of the ski area as a year round operation is going to have a definite impact on Rappahannock. County citizens should have the opportunity to hear specific plans from James Moore and his associates. Interested and affected parties deserve the opportunity to make their views known.
