Luminari

Luminaria, traditionally used around homes and churches to light a pathway to a door, are being sold by the Washington and Flint Hill United Methodist churches.
The use of luminaria is an age old custom begun by a colony along the Rio Grande River in Mexico, said to light the way for Christ on Christmas Eve. Originally luminaria, meaning little fires, were small piles of burning pinion wood. Today they are plumbers candles placed inside a white paper bag with enough sand to bold the candle erect. They are generally spaced 8 to 10 feet apart.
Luminaria, including a bag, candle and sand, will be sold in groups of six, a kit, for $1.50. These will stand up in strong wind and are not likely to catch fire. They may be picked up on December 16 or 17.
