At a meeting of the Rappahannock County Democratic Party’s Executive Committee on April 6 at the home of the Party’s secretary, Mary Edna Schaefer at Sperryville, rules for the Party's Mass Meeting,, scheduled for April 15 at the Court House, were agreed upon. The Mass Meeting will elect four delegates and two alternates to go to a State Democratic Party Convention in Williamsburg on June 9, where a Democratic candidate for the U. S. Senate will be selected. The meeting will also elect four delegates and two alternates to go to a Seventh Congressional District Convention in Charlottesville on June 3, where a candidate for the U S. House of Representatives will be chosen.
The Executive Committee will recommend that the delegates and alternates elected to the State Convention will be simultaneously declared elected to the District Convention. This option was chosen to expedite the Mass Meeting.
The rules also indicate that registration will occur between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., at which time registration will close and only those on hand, ready to register at 12:30, will be permitted to participate. Procedures following Democratic Party rules require a closing hour for registration.
