Recent legislation has changed the social security monthly retirement test so • that it can apply to a person only one time, Bruce Hundley, Social Security Manager in Culpeper, said today.

“This change in the retirement test means that we can pay a person for a month in which his earnings, or hours of work from selfemployment, are limited. For any year after this monthly test has been applied, a person will be paid only under the annual retirement test.”

The 1978 annual limit is $4,000 for people 65 and over, and $3,240 for people under 65. There is no limit on earnings for persons age 72 and over. For each $2 earned over the annual limit, $1 of social security benefits will be withheld.
