committing Rappahannock to a federally funded program when federal funds may be withdrawn at any time, leaving the county responsible for the total costs. However, a motion to approve was offered, seconded and carried unanimously.
In the area of extracurricular activities, the School Board approved an extension in funding for the activity bus and payment to an elementary teacher to serve as assistant girls track coach.
Mrs. Massie reported that there were sufficient funds in the transportation category of this year’s budget to pay for an extension in the afterschool activity bus. The money was there, she explained. because it had not been necessary to run three extra buses anticipated for half-day kindergarten classes. She requested, however, that the athletic department submit “more realistic” budget figures in the future if a bus was desired for the entire school year.
The Board approved payment of S150 to elementary physical education teacher Bobbie Powers to serve as assistant track coach. "The sum is consistent with what is paid for similar extra-curricular activity responsibilities," Superintendent William Bloomer added.
In other action, the Board authorized Bloomer to look into rates charged by various exterminator companies and to get some expert advice on control from persons not affiliated with professional exterminators. The authorization came after elementary principal Graham Spencer reported that four classrooms and the halls at the elementary school may be infested with termites.
Concert Set
The Rappahannock High School Choir, under the direction of Judy Bomberger, will present a concert of light spring music on Thursday, April 20, at 8 p.m. at the Amissville Methodist Church. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
