“I think we ought to take a long and hard look before approving a rezoning from agriculture to commercial, here or anywhere else," Mrs. Harris maintained.
Mrs. Donald Kent, Peter Kramer and Dr. Werner Krebser all said they supported the concept of an antique shop and market but with a special use permit from the Board of Zoning Appeals, not a commercial rezoning.
Hastily Scheduled Hearing
Sean Kilpatrick, final speaker against the rezoning, acknowledged that he, too, was concerned about the latitude that a commercial designation would allow but added that he was more disturbed by “the precipitous haste of this whole process...It’s been rush, rush, rush to get this lined up so the Board of Supervisors can hear it on April 6,” said Kilpatrick, referring to the specially scheduled Planning Commission public hearing on the afternoon prior to the Supervisors’ meeting. “Why the exceptional undue haste?” he asked. “Why the precipitous stampede to get the Davises marched on to the Board of Supervisors?”
