mrs. uavis, me ursi speaker, volunteered to be sworn in before making her presentation. “I’d like for the opposition to be sworn in also,” she suggested but Commission Chairman Herbert Barksdale replied that it wasn’t necessary. Barksdale also told Mrs. Pavis to refrain from criticizing anything printed in The Rappahannock News regarding the rezoning request after Mrs. Davis asked if she should address the “abuse” that had appeared in the paper.
Relating the history of why she had asked for a rezoning, Mrs. Davis reported that construction of a limited access road had divided their farm in two when the Washington by-pass was built. She said she’d received only half as much in damages , as other properties down the road because the Highway Department considered that the Davis land had appreciated in value as a business location. She said she’d been told by Highway Department personnel that her farm was valuable as commercial and not agricultural land due to its new cross-over on a limited access road.
She also stated that she had used the red bam on the farm in her remodeling and building businesses. However, due to a physical disability suffered in the last year, she said she could no longer pursue either of these enterprises and wanted a commercial rezoning so she could derive income from the property.
