Most ot tne good, dedicated teachers are here because they have a family or other ties in the area. The lack of discipline problems stems mainly from having had some good teachers should be rewarded rather than considered a minus on the pay scale. An effort on the part of the administration to put a square peg in a square hole rather than a square peg in a round hole might also be an incentive to teachers.
The school pay scale in Rappahannock as in most counties is set up with step increases. Inflation has made cost of living increases a necessity in all walks of life. The School Board and Administrators have blatantly ignored this as far as the teachers are concerned. Whose word stands for anything these days? Who is setting good examples?
Let's consider Rappahannock’s ability to pay. We can afford two cars for every family, each with a CB radio set, two televisions for every household, golf clubs, tennis outfits...maybe our priorities are all wrong...and the city folk find the low tax area a most rewarding place to settle. How much of Mr. Eastham’s salary from the banking business in beautiful Virgin Islands was p*L» in love, and how much in cold, h>’d cash, so he could come t Rappahannock and purchase his present holdings in a low tax area?
Communication works two ways. Have you, the School Board, asked teachers for suggestions, inquired about their concerns and needs? How much study and consideration was given the long range plan which was recently adopted?
