Col. E. P. Luke of Sperryville announced Tuesday that he will ask to have his name placed on the ballot for supervisor from Piedmont District in the November elections.
Luke, who currently represents Piedmont and serves as chairman of the Rappahannock board, previously stated that he would not seek reelection. He said, however, that he changed his mind after being presented with petitions this week.
Following Luke’s decision not to run, a group of interested citizens organized a draft effort. “I told them that, if elected, I would serve,” said Luke, but added that he’d remained opposed to having his name on the ballot. “I thought it was idle talk, that nothing would come of it.”
On Monday, he had to acknowledge that his supporters were more than just idle talkers. He was presented with two petitions: the first, with 200 signatures, supported placing his name on the ballot while the second, with 215 signatures,
