mariiyn Merrill bailey ot Washington has declared her intentions this week to seek the office of Commissioner of the Revenue in the election this November. She is the second candidate to declare for this office which will have no incumbent since Commissioner Virginia D. Smith declined to run again. Deputy Commissioner Merle Scoggin has already announced her candidacy.
Mrs. Bailey, 48, is a Rappahannock native, the daughter of L. V. Merrill of Washington. She is married to Leon Bailey and they have four children, ages 10 to grown and three grandchildren.
After attending public schools in Rappahannock Mrs. Bailey attended Anderson College, Anderson, S.C. and Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. She later studied accounting at Ohio University for a year.
Mrs. Bailey has formerly been employed with her father’s Ford agency as bookkeeper and was cited for excellence in 1963, 64 and 65 by the Ford Motor Company.
