Other freshmen coming out for track for the first time have Remonstrated ability. Mary Jordan, Terry Williams and Kim Pullen threw the discus and shot with success. Mary will join the varsity girts in the district meet this weekend for shot put competition. Angela Jordan and Donna Knight showed promise in the long jump while Lisa Poe and Rhonda Jenkins demonstrated potential for distance running. Tammy Armentrout was unable to compete due to injury.
Of the eighth graders, Crystol Porter, Cindy Poe and Fran Jenkins led Martha Alford, Ginger Edison and Lori Rutherford in sprint competitions. Crystol ran to a new record of 29.5. Patricia Scott and Lynn Jones ran distance and relays, Jeanine Bloomer, Becky Knight and Cindy Bywaters threw discus while Kathy Wingfield, ] Michelle Longmire and Loranine Foster ran hurdles.
Unfortunately, the JV | track season was short, j barely giving the girls a chance to settle their nerves and relax to run the races they are capable of running. Many of the freshmen along with Crystol Porter, Cindy Poe and Fran Jenkins have talents that should enable them to succeed on the varsity level next season.
