port, the county will receive $2.56 for every dollar of county money allocated to the Library. This money will come from private donations, state and federal aid, interest from permanent capital and other miscellaneous income.
If the requested additional county support is not granted, the Rappahannock Library will have to return to a part-time operation.
It will no longer receive state books for the visually handicapped and will have to severely curtail book purchases. In addition, the library will lose $2,200 in state and federal funds per year.
“The services of a good, full-functioning library are essential to a first-class rural community,” the Library Trustees said. “Rappahannock has developed such a library through years of volunteer work and support of unselfish and generous residents. It will be a great waste and loss to let the library phase down to a second-class, ‘sometime’ operation now.”
