Elementary librarian Lucia Kilby, also interviewed by TV Topics, noted that Rappahannock County is one of the smallest school divisions receiving ITV service from Harrisonburg station WVPT. She estimated that 95 per cent of Rappahannock’s elementary students and 50 per cent of its high school students watch some instructional programs during the school year.
“Because of our limited financial resources, we have only about 30 programs taped and kept indefinitely at each school. Most of these are science, history and Encyclopedia Brittanica Presentation programs,” Mrs. Kilby told TV Topics. She added that an in-service workshop to help Rappahannock teachers learn more about the proper use of instructional television is planned for early next fall.
In comments from other school personnel, Superintendent William Bloomer described ITV as the most effective audiovisual aid. Fourth grade teacher Aney Massie said that instructional television had extended her class’ study ot Virginia history and high school librarian Jean Moffett noted that ITV provided reliable and up-todate information.
