Energy Fair
The Piedmont Alliance for Safe Energy is sponsoring an alternative energy fair on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, in the Charlottesville Mall.
The fair’s primary focus is information exchange. Solar, wind, biomass conversion, >^mall scale hydroelectric technologies and con* servation exhibits will be included. Some participants will also present short talks and —or side shows. In addition, PASE will show several movies during the fair, including: — “Energy: New Sources,” a survey of alternatives to nuclear power, — "The Other Way,” an exploration of E.F. Schumacher’s concepts of “intermediate technology” and “small is beautiful,” — “The Solar Promise,” a recent general solar film, — “Gusts of Power,” wind energy film from the Department of Energy, — “Mac’s Mill,” an example of sound forest management and small scale hydroelectric applications.
Local musicians have volunteered their time and talents to entertain fair goers both Friday and Saturday.
Presentations will include display of a methane digester, slide show on solar greenhouses, windmill design, display of a solar shower by the Twin Oaks Community, solar greenhouse for supplemental heating space, energy conservation through architectural design, what the homeowner can do to conserve energy, solar and nature-drive heating and cooling of buildings with ground storage and low cost radiant panel output and recycling.
