Masterson asked if the regular-sized classroom used for a special education class for only five children could be divided into two rooms.
“The state department has not and probably will not approve dividing any classroom that now exists,” Bloomer replied. He added that the state department has already okayed a modular unit designed for two classes to be used for LD selfcontained and LD resource. “Sounds like they’re using a lot of weasle words!” in‘“rjected Masterson. Assistant Rob McDaniel questioned buying double the modular classroom space that is currently needed. “I see no educational advantage to consolidating’’ EMR, TMR and two LD classes in one unit, he said.
The double trailer will “free up space” and “open up possibilities for the future,” in addition to relieving overcrowding at the elmentary school, Eastham argued.
The administration would rather see funds divided between several areas of need Charles Eldred maintained, the time for the school psychologist in view of recently cited deficiencies in the testing program for special education screening.
