To meet the requirement for additional appropriations, Masterson suggested increasing the allocation for contractual services to cover costs of a space utilization study for the high school. He also proposed a hike in the allocation for teacher inservice training to provide for the services of an expert in education to sit in on classes and then work with individual teachers to correct short comings. '
“If you do that, you’re going to have to pay,” Bloomer responded, noting that consultant services will run a minimum of $100 per day plus expenses.
"How long would it take to do both schools?” asked Eastham. He added that all teachers wouldn’t need this extra help, that it would be primarily intended for new teachers.
Mrs. Massie inquired if the other board members were agreed to spend the additional $38,950.
Eastham asked if the board had any choice.
"No, but it’s a place to start with you gentlemen,” Mrs. Massie countered, sparking a round of applause from the audience.
Eastham asked how the space would be used should the school board agree to buy a modular unit.
