The Rappahannock Fanners Market will open for the 1980 season on Saturday, May 24 with hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Members of the market organization agreed at their meeting last Thursday to preceed the opening with maintenance work at the site next to the Rappahannock Farmers Co-op on Route 211. Vice-president Marshall Burke, with his new mule, will lead vendors, husbands, wives and friends of the market in clean-up projects on Saturday, April 26. Another crew will join manager Don Kent to cut locust trees on his property. The wood will be used to dress up the stands at the market in preparation for the new season.
Laurie Marshall, chairman of the program committee, is working with Jane Cooper on a program for opening day. They are also planning musical entertainment, craft demonstrations and other activities for regular market days as well as a special presentation for July 4th.
