Rappahannock is the only jurisdiction in the five-county Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District to show an increase in the number of housing units authorized during the first quarter of 1980. ’ * Compared fo the first quarter of 1979, .the increase in new housing here stands at 86 per cent. During January, February and March of 1979, seven new units were authorized in Rappahannock. In the same period of 1980, the number increased to 13.
By comparison, new housing in the planning district as a whole declined by 46 per cent. The sharpest drop occurred in Orange County, down 73 per cent, followed by Madison (53 per cent decline), Fauquier (37 per cent decline) and Culpeper (15 per cent decline.
The total number of new units approved during the first quarter of the year in the district as a whole dropped from 249 in 1979 to 134 in 1980.
