and unnecessary problem by:
—Keeping litter containers in their vehicles and using them for trash until it can be disposed of properly.
—Using the litter barrels placed at intervals along Virginia’s highways. More than 1,400 such receptacles are provided by the department for litter disposal and signs on the roadways point out their locations.
—Encouraging the establishment and use of adequate local refuse disposal facilities if they aren’t already provided. This would help in eliminating household garbage being thrown in and around the state’s roadside receptacles, which are not designed for that purpose.
In addition to litter collection, which is a yeararound job, the department’s spring cleaning includes the re-painting of trash barrels and the cleaning of signs, rest areas, waysides, and picnic table areas.
St. Luke’s
Plans Fair
St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Culpeper will hold its first Spring Fair on Saturday, May 10, at the recently completed school on Old Rixeyville Road.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the fair will offer pony rides, games, prizes and a cake walk. In addition to baked goods, booths will sell white elephant items, books, plants donated by Van Wingerdon’s Greenhouses and craft items.
Money raised by the fair will be used to purchase playground equipment and instructional materials.
