In a triple meet last Wednesday against Stonewall and Strasburg, nine Rappahannock girls turned in performances that bettered the pre-meet marks set by coach Ann Spieker.
Led by another outstanding showing from distance runner Ann Thomas, Rappahannock easily defeated Strasburg but was edged out by Stonewall in the three-school contest.
Thomas won the mile-run with a time of 5:48.4 and the two-mile in 12:20.8. Allison Best brought home the only other first for the Lady Panthers, winning the 100 yard dash in 12.4.
In field events, Tammy Atkins threw the discus 96’6” to finish third with Donna Gore throwing for fifth. Mary Jordan heaved the shot for a third place.
Long jumpers Rhonda Brown, Pam Estes and Allison Best all improved on their performances in earlier meets by more than a foot, easily bettering the goals set for the girls by coach Spieker.
