In addition, they’ll take canoe trips, one a six-day “primitive” journey in Boundary Waters Canoe Area National Park. Wendy and Janet will be part of a group of 56 scouts and seven leaders selected from all over the country to participate in “Voyager’s Rendezvous” by area Girl Scout Councils.
After returning from Canada by way of Toronto and Niagra Falls, Janet DeRoo will hit the road again, this time for San Diego to take part in “Seafarer’s Sampler” at the Coronado Naval Base. Thera, focus will be on water skills, boating and marine biology.
Janet hopes that the summer scouting adventures will build experience she can put to use in working with the senior scouts here next year. Training in canoeing will enable her to teach the Sport to her senior troop. In addition, she'll produce a slide tape program of the Fort Henry “Voyager’s Rendezvous” to show to local groups, including the seventh grade history class at Rappahannock elementary school where she teaches.
