John Amberson, a beekeeper in the Castleton area, was forced to relocate 20 of his honeybee hives late Friday.
Amberson had observed an abnormally high honeybee mortality among his colonies that afternoon. Apparent cause was an ahead-ofschedule application of insecticide to an alfalfa field on a neighboring farm. The hasty relocation of. Amberson’s hives was an attempt to preserve his prospects for a 1980 honey crop and the future health of his colonies.
Fortunately. five of Amberson's 25 hives had been moved to a temporary location near Rock Mills a few days prior to the incident. The remaining 20 hives were transported to the Parrish farm near the Thornton River. The hasty relocation operation extended to early morning hours on Saturday.
