The issue of abortion, subject of heated debate in letters exchanged over the past month in the Rappahannock News, was the first point raised in questions posed to Wyatt Durrette, Republican candidate for attorney general who was at the Rappahannock court house on Thursday.
The opening shot of the informal session was doublebarreled with Durrette asked where he stood on the Equal Rights Amendment as well as on abortion.
Opposed to ERA and prolife, the candidate responded.
Durrette said he didn’t support abortion except where necessary to save the life of the mother. His own personal view, he said, is that human life begins at the moment of conception, making abortion the taking of that human life.
