His character is a mixedclass magic user and fighter. Eric usually chooses to compete in the neutral category. “That way, you can torture somebody or be nice to somebody, depending on how you feel,” he explained.

Right now, Eric doesn’t have too much time for playing. An accomplished dungeon master, he and his D&D partner Greg Smith are creating a dungeon that will challenge adventurers at next week’s convention. “It takes a week and a half at the very minimum to come up with a good dungeon. It takes so many ideas,” Eric said.

A few steps past the perils of Pauline, dungeons are fraught with danger. Behind a closed door may lurk a werewolf, a giant slug or a flock of vampire bats. For original monsters, dungeon masters have to endow their creations with hit points adventurers may attack through a roll of the dice.
