With time running out and additional safety information still not received, the Rappahannock planning commissioners forwarded to the supervisors last Wednesday a recommendation for denial of a proposed zoning amendment to allow shooting ranges by special use permit in an agricultural zone.
Commonwealth’s attorney Douglas Baumgardner, Peter Luke, lawyer for the proprietors of Blue Ridge Guns who are seeking the ordinance amendment, and planning commissioners Dave Fannon and Charles Estes met two weeks ago with a representative from the National Rifle Association (NRA) to work on incorporating more extensive controls and standards in the range ordinance that was proposed in May.
