foster home to provide real “tender loving care" to needy adults. The guidelines stipulate that no more than three adults may go to any one home.
Funds for the pilot project were appropriated by the General Assembly specially for this purpose, and will be added to local funds to pay the caretakers.
Those eligible are county residents on a limited income who are not totally disabled but who need some assistance. Those chosen to participate will also pay part of the expense of their care which will range up to S350 per month, depending on the degree of disability.
What will happen at the end of the year of the study? “If it works out well, then it will be part of our polity,” Kreitler said. She added that the alternative of foster care placement will be less expensive as well as more acceptable to adults who need it.
Kreitler said that the Rappahannock County Welfare Department hopes to identify the three adults and to have selected one or more homes for placement by midSeptember. Those interested in either providing or receiving care under the program may call her at the Welfare Office.
Other counties in Planning District Nine who will participate in this study are Fauquier. Culpeper. Madison and Orange.
