Camp Hoover, former President Hoover’s retreat in Shenandoah National Park, will be open for special tours August 7 and 8. The three remaining Camp buildings, which are normally reserved for use as VIP accommodations, will be open both days. Free bus transportation. building tours, and guided hikes will be offered.
Park Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen announced that this annual celebration of “Hoover Days” has been scheduled each year on the weekend closest to the former President's birthday. “We hope that visitors will take this opportunity to visit this interesting and beautiful area of the Park,” said Jacobsen.
Buses will be available to transport visitors to the Camp from Byrd Visitor Center at Big Meadows, Milepost 51 on the Skyline Drive. Trips will begin approximately every half hour from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Park personnel will be present at the Camp to assist visitors and answer questions as they tour the buildings and grounds.
