To the editor: Chivalry is not dead, nor is the code of the Good Samaritan! This is a happy story, a public thank-you, written in the hope that our Knight of the Road himself will see it. Failing that, perhaps one of his friends will read this and will put turn in touch with us, for such a man must have many friends.

Several weeks ago or a day's outing to the mountains with my sister and our parents, our Blazer broke dow n on that winding stretch of road between Sperryville and the Skyline Drive. We came to a grinding halt on a blind curve where the shoulder of the road was low and narrow.

With no power whatever, we could only roll backward in order to get as far off the road as possible, with my father meanwhile directing the traffic around us. This was definitely a dangerous parking place!
