On Sunday morning, my mother asked me if I was going to Church. I told her I was not. She burst into tears, and said. "You are not going to see your brother baptized!" She wept bitterly. 1 told her 1 would go if it would do her any good. I did go and all the preachers said seemed intended for me.

I was troubled on account of my sins for two months; finally 1 could not work. Two weeks before Christmas I came to the conclusion that God would not suffer such a sinner as 1 was to live out of hell any longer. I certainly believed it was the last day 1 should ever see, it was a beautiful sun-shiny day. I made up my mind that I would walk away. I walked about a quarter of a mile along a small path that led through a piece of woods. While walking along a verse of a hymn came to my mind which 1 had often heard.

1 can but perish If 1 pray.

I am resolved to try.

For if I stay away,
