increase in our shop sales,” reports Cheri Woodard of Faith Mountain Herbs in Sperryville. ‘‘Our catalog sales are way up, too - 110 percent over last year.”

Cheri said that, indirectly, the catalog has boosted her store sales. “This was a surprising reaction,” she said. "People come in, catalog in hand, asking to buy items that were offered bv mail order. I think that with the catalog, they plan to stop by here on their next trip." Cheri said that the most popular Christmas items this year were her herb wreaths, corn husk wreaths and herb jars.

Phyllis Swindler of Country Manor, another Sperryville gift shop offering mail order as well as in-store sales, said that the catalog business has been "phenomenal." Popular among catalog shoppers are Country Manor’s countryoriented crafts and gifts. "The catalog also helps make people aware that we're here, and they plan a special trip to see our products in person." Phyllis said that her wooden apples and wooden Christmas apple cones have been "amazing” sellers. Also popular at Country Manor this Christmas have been the hams and the Black Hills gold jewelry.

In the Celia' Deli, Mike Sacco has been doing a booming business, with party platters a big seller this season. "The whole deli business has been just great.” Phyllis said.
