In addition, a Catholic retreat center on an adjoining 200 acres of Sommarbeth Farm is expected to generate more traffic on Route 662. In a hearing last week by the board of zoning appeals, spokesmen for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington reported that the center will serve teenagers, families and engaged couples at retreats planned for weekdays and weekends during summer months and weekends throughout the rest of the year. The special use permit granted by the BZA for Bethany House allows up to 120 people at the retreat center at any one time.
In letters to the county zoning administrator dated November 17 and December 7, Askew described Roue 662 as "intolerable in its present condition" and concluded that the road “could not safely handle additional traffic.”
