Joyce Kramer said that the Christmas business at Rush River Company has been “better than ever.” “We always do well at Christmas time,” Joyce said, “but this year has been fantastic."
At the Middle Street Gallery, recently moved next to the Inn in Washington, Dan Lewis said that since he’d only been in business for one year, he had nothing to compare it to. “We’re very pleased," Dan said. “I was hoping that Christmas would be a good time for us and it has been.” Dan said that his framing business has done very well along with his house drawings and portraits. Smaller gift items have been successful as well, Dan reports, with cards and locally-made glassware selling fast.
Part of the encouraging trend for local businesses may be the increased traffic on the drive, up last month at the Panorama entrance through Sperryville after a year-long slump in 1981. The weather cooperated throughout the early winter season, keeping travelers routed to the mountains all through November and early Decern her.
