The Rappahannock School Board struggled for hours at its December meeting to understand the content and implications of an index salary scale for all school employees.
The board heard a report Tuesday, December 14, from the committee of board members charged with developing the scale.
Assistant School Superintendent Gerald Lysic, spokesman for the group that included himself, Nancy Reeve and Nelson Lane, gave a presenattion of the committee's work to date.
In its simplest characterization, an index scale provides a series of figures for the reimbursement of teachers, administrative staff and support employees. Each salary level is related to others within the same category; a ten-year teacher, for example, earns more than a first-year teacher; a principal earns more than an assistant principal.
