Everybody was very horrified,” she said, chuckling at the recollection.
For Mrs. Ethel Bailey of Washington, Santa Claus was always one of the main attractions of Christmas. “I was raised on a farm and on Christmas Eve, our folks told us we’d better get in bed early or Santa wouldn’t come. Then the man who owned the farm would get out his horses and put sleigh bells on them. He used to go down by the orchard and come riding full circle around the farm and come by our house which was about in the middle of the farm property. Of course, we all knew it must be Santa Claus.”
