postponed a decision to accept or reject three applications for contro\ersial Agricultural and Forestal District status. Commonwealth Attorney Henry Carter of Orange wrote the Attorney General on October 13 requesting an opinion on whether use value taxation automatically applies to all land within an AF district. When no response came. Carter wrote again on December h and requested an answer by December 13.

"1 haven t gotten an official opinion. Carter told the Orange Supervisors. "1 think they're pussyfooting around with the same problems we are." he said.

An appreciation night was held for retiring delegate French Slaughter who served for twenty years in the Virginia House of Delegates representing the* 2.>th Legislative District. Among honored guests were Governor Mills E. Godwin. During his tenure. Mr. Slaughter chaired main legislative commissions and implemented some significant pieces of legislation including the Communitv College Bill. He is frequently referred to as "the father of the Communitv College system." The Rappahannock Jaycee Chapter sponsored a project for Christmas w hich provided food for needy families. "The program is planned to assist families who have a legitimate need for assistance." said Jaycee president Doug Baumgardner, "and private contributions of canned goods or other foodstuffs will be greatly appreciated.”
