In Memory Of Mary Cleveriey

Most of us go thru life not leaving much of a mark, but one who will leave a mark for a long time in Flint Hill passed away June 8, 1984. Mary was bom July 25,1903 in Boston, Massachusetts. She died the way she lived - alone, her husband passed away many years ago, a friend, Ida Trump, lived with her for a few years, but she had lived alone for years. Mary designed the home she lived in to conform to wheel chair living, having gathered this knowledge from working for H.U.D. She also set up the registry system the county is presently using and was the first general registrar. She was a remarkable woman in many ways and contributed much to Rappahannock. A loner, and yet she enjoyed people, and has led a very' interesting life. We have enjoyed hearing the tales she would tell of her childhood days on the Cape.

Mary mothered a dog that came to live with her and everywhere she went there was "Brownie" as she called her.

I think most small towns have characters, but this is one "lovable character" who will be much missed in Flint Hill. Farewell “Damn Yankee" as she used to refer to herself with pride.
