The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection (RLEP) was formed to protect and enhance the natural and built environment of Rappahannock County through, inter alia, the encouragment of environmentally sound development practices.

The proposal for the Rappahannock Group Home now pending before the county Board of Supervisors represents an extreme example of unsound development planning for the following reasons:

(1) The proposed site of the project is inappropriate and incorrect, inasmuch as medical personnel and hospital facilities necessary for the care of the patients would be remote or inaccessible, and existing local fire and rescue services are inadequate to meet the foreseeable demands which would be placed upon them by the project. An isolated hollow is not an appropriate location for a facility for elderly people, and it would be imprudent to put the health and welfare of the residents of the home at risk in this way.
