Rappahannock’s planning commissioners will discuss the county's proposed zoning ordinance with supervisors August 23, after a joint public hearing scheduled to begin at the courthouse at 7:30 p.m.
Following a public hearing August 15 on the proposed ordinance, planners declined to say how they would proceed with the zoning issue.
Said Planning Commission Chairman A. Y. Stokes August 20: “After the joint hearing with the supervisors on the 23rd, (we’ll) go over some of the input from the Wednesday meeting and try to iron out some of the problems presented at the public hearing.
Asked of the possibility of a series of meetings on the proposed ordinance, Chairman Stokes said: “I really can’t say. I’m sure that we’ll probably have additional meetings.
“We’re continuing to take public input,” he continued. Well work in any way we can to adjust the ordinance to meet the needs of the people. Of course, you can’t meet the needs of everyone. I’m sure there are some things that need to be adjusted and will be.”
“Whenever you get as much reaction, you’ve got to sit down and think about it,” Planning Commissioner Newbill Miller said August 20. “I don’t have any objection to meeting informally and listening and talking. If people come with an attitude of accomplishing something, that’ll work.”

Drafts of Rappahannock’s proposed zoning ordinance now are available for 38 at the Treasurer’s Office in Washington. The drafts originally cost |20.
According to Sharon Dodson, deputy treasurer, “10 or 15” copies of the document have been sold since a public hearing on the proposed zoning ordinance was held August 15.
Fifty copies were printed to be sold at the reduced price, Dodson confirmed.
Treasurer’s Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Other copies of the proposed ordinance are available for public inspection at no cost: two can be bottowed for up to a week from the zoning administrator’s office; two others, one loaner and one for use on the premises, are available at the Clerk’s Office, where zoning maps also can be inspected.
