Gary Lee Bright, 21, of Sperryville was ordered sentenced to 12 months in jail by a jury in Rappahannock County Circuit Court last Thursday. Bright was convicted of driving a pickup last March after being declared an habitual traffic offender last year by the court.
Bright’s license was suspended indefinitely by the county’s Circuit Court in August, 1963. He is now free on bond, pending formal sentencing September 20.
“The public should be aware that there are very stiff sentences for people who drive after they’re (named) habitual offenders,” said Peter Luke, commonwealth’s attorney for Rappahannock.
“The word should get out that I’m going to prosecute these cases—and there are mandatory sentences involved,” he added.
Deputy Todd W. Brown of the county Sheriffs Department spotted Bright driving a red Chevrolet pickup at approximately 5:25 p.m. on March 7.
